California Cannabis Update
I wanted to write a post updating y’all with what’s going on in the world of medical cannabis.
Medical cannabis made a great run during Georgia’s 2014 legislative session, but was killed at the end of the session by state senator Renee Unterman.
But Renee Unterman prioritizing politics above sick Georgians has stopped advocates and patients from pushing medical cannabis even harder. The attention that Georgia cannabis legislation received allowed advocated, patients, media, and all compassionate and intelligent people to team up and make Georgia’s medical cannabis movement bigger and stronger than ever!
In order to prepare for Georgia’s imminent medical marijuana program, The Halcyon team sent me to Sacramento, California to live and work with our professional cannabis growers. This is like an adult internship. My job is to learn the finer details of cannabis cultivation, production and distribution. I’m also developing a larger line of Halcyon Organics medical cannabis products.
I’ve been here for about a month and have already had a crash course in large-scale cannabis production. We visited the Humboldt and Mendocino forests while meeting with outdoor growers. For those of you who don’t know, Humboldt, Mendocino, and Trinity counties form what is called the “Emerald Triangle.” This region of the country has the perfect climate to grow Kush strains and is secluded. Consequently, these three counties produce around 80% of the U.S. cannabis supply. This is also where the best cannabis in the world is grown (Sorry Colorado and Amsterdam).
While in the Emerald Triangle, we met farmers who produces thousands of pounds of cannabis annually. We then toured some large outdoor and greenhouse grows. We also bought a few units and sold them to cannabis clubs in Sacramento – LEGALLY!
Other places where we have good relationships with suppliers are Chico, Marysville, Placerville and Auburn California.
My initial reaction to California’s medical marijuana industry was “Wow, they gotta a lotta weed here.”
After working in CA’s mmj industry for a while, my reaction is “Wow, they have even more than cannabis here than I thought.” And right now is the ‘driest’ part of the year. The fall harvest is starting in a few weeks and I’m going to get to see why it’s called “Croptober.”
In order to legally distribute more cannabis and use more aggressive advertising campaigns, we started Fruitful. Fruitful is a medical cannabis delivery and mail order company that serves California. Fruitful is also a vehicle to distribute our Halcyon Organics products to verified patients and get feedback to improve and perfect our recipes.
My goal is to learn as much as possible and use my knowledge to help Georgia develop its medical marijuana program. But don’t worry, I’m not going to implement Cali stuff in GA. I’m a Georgia boy. I’m seeing how they do here and I’m going to put our southern flavor on it!
The rest of the Halcyon team is in Atlanta supporting me out here. We’re getting ready for a big push in 2015. Stay tuned for more updates on my California adventure!
BTW – My grammar, word choice and writing style are less professional in this post because this is just free flow writing.
PS – If you still don’t believe that cannabis has medicinal value and should be illegal, you are either illiterate, stupid, or mean.
